Since 1844, artisanal excellence in Charolles
Since 1844, Faïencerie de Charolles has embodied the refinement of French artisanal ceramics. Founded by Hippolyte Prost in the heart of Burgundy, it perpetuates rare expertise, recognized by the Entreprise du Patrimoine Vivant (EPV) label since 2009.
The Carnation motif: an iconic signature
The Carnation decor, which you find on our emblematic pieces such as the GlouGlou carafe, the Rabbit or other everyday objects, is inspired by the first floral motifs that appeared in Charolles in 1855. This stylized and delicate symbol now embodies the visual identity of the Manufacture.
The motif comes in three colors: traditional, red and black. These bring a touch of modernity to the object, making it both contemporary while respecting its heritage.
Hand-painting technique: tradition and precision
-
Shaping & first firing
Our pieces are cast in molds (not thrown on a wheel), then undergo a first firing to obtain the bisque. -
Brush painting
The decorations are painted by hand, with a brush, directly onto the bisque. Our artists apply the highlighting technique, layering several coats to bring nuances, depth, and relief. -
Glazing and final firing
After air-drying, the piece is dipped in a transparent glaze, then undergoes a second firing that fixes the pigments and reveals the lasting brilliance of the decor.

A living and exclusive tradition
Even today, each piece is shaped and decorated in our Burgundy workshop. Our painters perpetuate a gesture passed down for more than 175 years. The Carnation is not a simple ornament: it is the reflection of a region, an identity, a French art of living.
To offer a piece from Charolles is to transmit a story, an emotion, unique expertise.
